Teaching Work

After-4 Activity Teacher for the Toronto District School Board, 1994-96

I taught soapstone carving and woodworking at Whitney and Blythwood Public Schools to students aged 7-11. I also taught soapstone carving to staff members who were new to the programme. I initiated and ran a workshop on basic drafting at City View Alternative School. Grade seven students designed and drafted to-scale plans of a dream bedroom. Students were also introduced to a basic lexicon of architectural terms and expressions.

French Teacher, TDSB 1989/90 and 1994/95

I taught introductory French through games, songs, art and stories to primary school students aged 5-7 for the After-4 Programme at Keele Street and Indian Road Crescent Public Schools.

ESL Teacher, For Adults at the Guelph Board of Education, 1991

Wrote curriculum and taught English to adults with intermediate English skills. The goal was to improve spoken and written English, focusing on formal grammar and idiomatic expressions. Another curriculum goal was to integrate basic life skills and knowledge which would be useful for newcomers to Canada.

For Children at the TDSB, 1990

I created and taught a four week ESL curriculum for a summer programme at Indian Road Public School. The programme had to meet the needs of a wide age group (8-12) and a variety of levels of English proficiency.
